This popped up as a memory today. Scenarios like this have happened so many times where I have found myself around random people speaking about Arabs or Muslims derogatorily, and I always have to put them in check. My name is Samer, I've worn a Palestinian Hustle shirt for almost three years strong. I speak Arabic, I have a Quran in my car, house and work, yet people still do not realize I am a Palestinian Muslim? This old guy was first in the check-in line and I was about 8 people behind him. He was having a hard time pulling his suitcase and carrying his bag. He was walking so slow and was really struggling. A few people in front of me were shaking their heads and the United employee kept waving at him as if he needed the constant reminder that he is old and slow. I put my bag outside the line so I could keep an eye on it, walked by the people in front of me and lifted his bag and carry-on to the counter. I asked if he needed help filling out anything and well the rest of the story is in the post. We've been through so much over the last 2 years, whether it be racism, a pandemic, ignorant people, protests, riots, police brutality, war, occupation, suffering of people, mental health, anxiety, stress, life and the list goes on and on. It's times like these that make me wish I could go back home to go visit my favorite place. The place I would go to when I was happy, excited, sad, confused, or depressed. The place I went to to feel like myself and the place that centered me. This place is featured in these photos. My favorite place on earth. Where's your special place? When I look outside the window I see so many thing

When I look outside the window I see so many things: love, courage, hate, racism, ignorance, selflessness, happiness, sadness, confusion and more. I see people not caring for their earth, neglecting to recycle, compost and do what they need to do to preserve this earth for our children. I see people not respecting the indigenous lands they live on. The one thing that's constant with everything I see is a choice. I see people who choose to be kind and loving, and I see people who choose to be hateful, ignorant, racist and basically choose to be assholes. The choice of our life is made by us and only us. I commend the ones who choose the hard path of being a kind person and making a difference in this world, and I feel sorry for those who choose the path of ignorance, hatred and racism. However, I do believe there is good in everyone and as part of our work to create more good in the world, we have to remind ourselves of that. With the state of this world we are in, it takes courage to wake up every day and put on a brave face. We need all of the light, love, and support we can get!
